A TRIP TO THE MOON INTERVIEW - SIMON PERINI

Here's Mr Perini. Our second interview in the lead up to our maiden voyage to the Moon. Simon has a long standing history with TCSS and his quirky, crafty signature is well documented in the dusty archives. Simon will be joining the ranks this Friday night at The Lord Gladstone, Chippendale for 'A Trip to the Moon'.
See below for what makes this Simon sizzle.

Name
Simon Perini

Where are you right now?
Sitting at my desk in front of a screen, wishing I was not.

Where is home?
Thirroul, NSW

Where is your favourite place on earth?
Anywhere in the sunshine

How would you describe your art? Is there a message your trying to portray?
I would say my work doesn’t deserve the title of art - more just "creative attempts”
I guess it's a nostalgic inspired hack job. There is generally no real message - but it’s nice if I see people smile for whatever reason.

Describe your work space for us.
I have the privilege of sharing a creative space above Finbox Surf Shop with 8 other people who are each amazing talents in their own creative pursuits.

How important is music to you and your art?
It is a great inspiration for me and a great tool to help me in my work flow.

What have you been listening to recently?
Jacco Gardner, Damien Jurado, Sampa the Great, Huey Lewis and Shining Bird.

How do you spend your time when you're not drawing and making art?
Pushing munchkins - swings, prams and sand over their toes.

You worked here at TCSS a few years ago.. Did you have a highlight or favourite artwork you did whilst here? So many classics.
The highlight was definitely the freedom and fun it was to spend my days doodling away. I don’t really have a favourite - my favourite was probably always the last one I did or any that got enough love to deem it worthy of being sported by another human.

As well as joining us on “A Trip To The Moon”, Have you been involved in any other group or solo shows recently?
No, not recently.

Future plans after the show?
Probably pizza for the drive home.
